| 10:00 | Museo del Recuerdo (Centro de Documentación del Instituto de la Patagonia). Magallanes University (UMAG). The Institute of Patagonia was founded in 1969 by historian Mateo Martinic Beros, who was the Regional Governor at that time. From the start, it was intended as a multidisciplinary center to expand knowledge of the Magallanes region. In the same year as its founding, the Center for Historical and Archaeological Studies (CEHA), formerly known as the Center for Studies of Southern Man, was established to study human presence throughout history and to preserve the archaeological remains found in the area. One of the Institute of Patagonia’s main missions is to examine the ecosystems of the southern territory. Consequently, the Center for Experimentation in Horticulture and Floriculture was founded in 1972. The community’s interest in the regional studies institute, along with donations from some families, led to the creation of the Museum of Remembrance in 1971. Initially, the permanent exhibit featured carriages, carts, locomotives, and other mechanical equipment, along with various tools, displayed in a landscaped area. Later, different thematic pavilions were added to enhance and expand the exhibition. Talk with Rafael Cheuquelaf, journalist and cultural manager at the University of Magallanes |
