Ariel Florencia Richards is a writer and scholar of visual arts.

Richards debuted with the novel Las olas son las mismas in 2016, which she republished in 2021 following her gender transition at age 37. Her second novel, Inacabada (2023), earned the Best Novel Award from Chile’s Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage and explores themes of personal rebirth through the story of a woman reconstructing her maternal bond. She has also authored works on art, including Gordon Matta-Clark: Contra viejas superficies (2024), and contributes essays to journals on topics such as performance, archives, and feminist marches.

A graduate of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Richards holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from New York University, obtained via a Bicentennial Scholarship, and is pursuing a PhD in visual arts at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, focusing on performance, space, and archives.

She serves as a cultural editor, collaborator for the art platform Artishock, associate researcher for the Archive Fictions project, and instructor in writing and architecture at institutions including Universidad de las Américas and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Her scholarship and literary output emphasize interdisciplinary ties between literature, visual culture, and personal transformation.
